Dog Training – How to Train Your Dog

Clicker Dog Training – How Does it Work?

What is clicker dog training? A clicker is a plastic box with a piece of metal on the inside that makes a clicking sound when you press it. When you use this item during dog training, it makes communication easier between you and your dog. It also makes the training process go much more quickly. When you depress the clicker, your dog will recognize the sound and understand that he is about to get a reward for doing something right.

To start using clicker dog training, you first get a handful of treats, then click the clicker and give your dog a treat immediately, so he will come to associate the sound of the clicker with getting a treat. He doesn’t have to do anything at this point other than hear the sound of the clicker. Once he associates the clicker with treats, you can start using it for training. For example, you can use it to teach him any sort of trick, behavior, or action that you like. When your dog does what you want him to do, make the clicking sound, and then give him a reward.

Clicker dog training is beneficial because the clicking sound is easy for your dog to remember and anyone in your family can learn to use it. All you have to do is remember to give your dog his reward as soon after pushing the clicker as possible.

As you progress in training, you will begin to ask gradually more difficult and complicated things of your dog. If he does not respond to the click, that just means he hasn’t associated it with the reward yet, so click a few more times and reward him just for hearing it, and then try the training again. You should get to the point where your dog will perform the action you want as soon as he hears the click. He will do this because he expects a reward.

Of course, you can use other methods to train your dog,  but a lot of people find that using a crate makes the whole training process easier on both them and their dog. Try training your dog with this simple dog training technique and see how it works for you.
